INTRODUCTION
Accomango is a Czech startup founded in 2020 that connects companies hiring blue-collar workers with accommodation providers. The platform digitalizes the entire process of finding, booking, and managing rooms for workers — a task that had long been handled manually, over the phone, or via spreadsheets.
I joined Accomango as a UX/UI Designer for six months, working within a small team of three designers: one UX Lead, myself (UX/UI), and a junior hybrid designer supporting both marketing and UI. Together, we built the platform from the ground up — designing core UX flows, full UI, a Tailwind-based design system, and the company website.
THE CHALLENGE
The goal was to build an accessible digital tool that even non-technical users could adopt — a platform simple enough for long-time property owners in their 50s and 60s, yet robust enough for HR managers coordinating hundreds of workers at once.

THE PROBLEM
Before Accomango, companies had to contact accommodation providers one by one, manually checking availability and negotiating terms. On the other side, property owners struggled with inconsistent bookings and no centralized system to manage their rooms. The entire process was fragmented, opaque, and time-consuming.
The biggest UX challenge was the technological diversity of users — ranging from tech-savvy managers to senior hosts unfamiliar with modern software. We needed to design an interface that both groups could understand at a glance.
DISCOVERY & EARLY RESEARCH
We began with stakeholder and field research to understand the real-world context. Our team interviewed both sides of the platform — HR managers placing workers and property owners hosting them. The results revealed not just technical pain points but also deep emotional barriers: fear of technology, lack of trust in digital payments, and confusion around online booking terminology.

KEY INSIGHTS
- Offline-first habits: Many users still relied on phone calls and handwritten lists.
- Power users vs. anti-users: We identified enthusiastic adopters who loved structure and skeptical veterans who resisted change.
- Clarity beats aesthetics: Users valued large buttons, simple labels, and predictable flows.
- Localization matters: Czech-specific terms, accents, and date formats became critical for usability.
UX PROCESS & WIREFRAMES
We iterated from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes in Figma. Every major feature was tested with local Czech users through remote moderated sessions. Their feedback directly shaped the layout, iconography, and navigation logic.
To ensure smooth collaboration with developers, all components were tied to a Tailwind CSS design system, ensuring pixel-perfect consistency and scalability.

CALENDAR FEATURE
The calendar was the operational heart of the platform. We designed it from scratch — focusing on clarity and legibility. Each day represented real occupancy, and drag & drop functionality allowed quick adjustments. The interface used strong colour cues and clear typography, making it intuitive even for users with minimal digital literacy.

ACCOMMODATION BROWSER
The browser connected supply and demand. Users could view available properties as a list or map, filter by capacity, location, and price, and instantly request bookings. On the provider side, owners could add new properties in just a few steps.

ONBOARDING FLOW
We designed two separate onboarding experiences: one for property owners and another for companies seeking accommodation. The flow was linear, with friendly microcopy and progress indicators. The aim was to reduce anxiety and make every step predictable.

VISUAL DESIGN & DESIGN SYSTEM
The design language balanced SaaS clarity with human warmth. We used a Tailwind-based system, building reusable components and clear documentation for developers. The color palette relied on calm neutrals with accent blues and greens to signal actions and statuses.
Accessibility was prioritized: large touch targets, high contrast, and plenty of whitespace. Small animations were added during onboarding to create a friendly and reassuring atmosphere.

FINAL DESIGNS
The final product presented a unified, modern platform ready for scaling. The responsive interface worked seamlessly on desktop and tablet, with quick access to calendar, listings, and analytics. In addition to the platform itself, I also designed the public-facing website, available at accomango.com.
OUTCOME
The redesigned Accomango platform drastically simplified the process of booking and managing accommodations for industrial workers. Early test users praised its simplicity, transparency, and visual structure.
- Time to complete bookings reduced by ~40%.
- Clear onboarding flow increased registration completion rates.
- Non-technical users felt comfortable using the system after a single walkthrough.
Although the project was ultimately paused due to financial instability, it proved how strong UX design and proper research can modernize an entire industry segment that had remained offline for decades.
